Travelling with bows
« on: May 15, 2013, 07:59:00 PM »
I will be travelling across country this summer and wanted to take my bow with me.  The problem is the only room available would be on the roof in a black cargo box.  The bow would be unstrung, but I am sure it will get hot up there.  Are my concerns legitimate?

If you have to ask, you are probably already thinking it is going to be a problem.  I wouldn't want to chance it.  keep the bow in the car with you, or buy a take down to make traveling easier.

If you think about it that is how your bow was glued up in the first place. Cured in a hot box. Definitely not a good idea.

will it fit across the backseat? If so, I have some neoprene gun supports on the back of my bucket seats that work good.

Find a way to rig it up inside. You can't be without a bow all summer!

What if you insulated it in a bow sock (or two) and then put into a white pvc tube?

I'd go with "across the back seat." Even with the back window will be cooler than in the travel rack on the roof.
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.

I once made a little bracket that fit on my rear view mirror. I then found an inexpensive clothes bar for above the back seat. I attached one end of the bow to the bracket at the mirror and the other end across the clothes bar. The bow ran right down the center of the car along the ceiling. Wasn't pretty but it worked.
