Pawn Shop Gem
« on: May 26, 2013, 09:01:00 PM »
Visited the local pawn shop on Thursday and noticed a recurve leaning up against the wall.  From a distance I thought it might be an old Bear but it turned out to be an AMF Hawk.  It really was in pretty good shape with just a few scratches.  Well I plunked down my cash and picked it up.  It shoots really nice for a shorter bow and is pretty darn zippy.  In any case it performs all out of proportion to the $30 price tag.  Here are some pics.

I never find any bows at pawn shops, or yard sales. I did find an old pearson cougar at a flea market though lol. Btw clark, I'm in love with that stik bow, after getting used to it, I'm shooting my best groups ever!

Nice bow. You just never know what people have laying around in basements and garages. I always slow down and look at any yard sale for that old bow in the corner.

Nice and congrats!

We found my RedStag at the pawn shop last year and got it for $150 in excellent condition (the previous owner had a 64" string on it and it's a 64" bow...   :scared:    :banghead: , so needless to say the string had slightly wore the finish on the upper limb, but other than that it was mint). Afterwards I took it to another sporting good store (Green Tops to be precise) and get it fitted for a endless loop string, I had several of the employees in the archery section asked me where I got it and how much I got it for. When I told them they offered me double $300 for it! I would NEVER give this bow up! It's my first and my only (for now) I will pass it down to my kids one day and keep it as a family heirloom!

Good find.  I came across a wing Hunter a couple springs ago at a large sale of items out of repoed houses for $5.00.  Twisted up a string and use it a a dandy back up bow.  My brother was shooting it just the other day and enjoyed it as I do.
