best fast string?
« on: May 27, 2013, 07:47:00 PM »
My new Predator bow should arrive next week.  I am not sure what kind of string it comes with, however I want to order a new string for it. Can anybody recommend who makes the best 'fastest' string?

What I mean is that I have been out of archery now for a couple of years and am just coming back. I know fast flight used to be the fastest, but perhaps there is a new ever better material now.  I may as well keep up with the latest materials if I can.

Cheers

Sutto

I like D10.  I tried a 14 strand on a 90@31 English longbow and it didnt creep.  Good stuff that D10.  SBD strings uses it and so do a few others.

Josh Sowerby, "Oliverstacy" on TradGang makes a fine D10 string, the best I've found.

How the string is made can make as much or more difference as the material.

That being said, 8190 is the "fastest" material, all else being equal.

If speed is your game, shoot lighter arrows--you'll gain a lot more speed that way.

Don't know about "best or fastest", but I like and use SBD strings, and Pierre is a sponsor here.

I like D10 too. I don't know if its the fastest but it doesn't stretch much, doesn't fuzz much, it's very durable and pretty quiet. I think 8125 may be a touch faster as it is lower mass per strand but it is a little fuzzy and I have had it creep on me some. I liked the old D97 too but D10 is superior IMHO.

Hmm, I'll have to try some D10..

I did make a few strings of 8190 and they were great..

Been using 8125 just because I'm used to it...

You'll have to buy "old stock" D10 or buy "Force 10 X-Bow Material" to get it.  BCY no longer sells it as D10--they cited it was because there was so little difference in it and Dynaflight '97 (SK75 Dyneema vs. SK78 Dyneema) that there was no point in it.

8190 is SK90 Dyneema--the strongest and most durable on the market.

I have tried a few sbd  oliver stacy champion customs   and tried 450  8190 and angel.   My favorite string is the endless loop 8190string with angel majesty serving from champion customs.  I had to move up a spine  :)   great stuff

I am using SBD 6-strand strings on my bows. They are awesome. Give Pierre at SBD a call tell him your bow specs and he will set you up.
Outstanding customer service too.

Have found it quite interesting that Winner's Choice advertises that 8190 Xtreme can be shot in with as few as 3 shots.

It may be likely that they were referring to conventional equipment, however 10 shots for traditional equipment would be most welcome.
