Point and nock taper problem
« on: August 30, 2007, 09:22:00 AM »
Do you guys stain, crown and dip your woodies before you taper your point & nock tapers or after.  I am staining, crown & dip first and having problems when I taper the ends I mess-up the end of the crown dip and on the point I mess-up the stain.  If you do taper the ends first how do you keep the tapers clean when you crown dip and poly dip...

Thanks, Al

I taper the nock before starting any staining or fninshing.  I don't worry much about keeping the tapers clean.  Duco will stick to just about any finish you choose to use.  When the final finish is applied and they are fletched I will cut to length and taper for the point.

I cut to length and taper for both nock and point then apply a wipe on stain and dip nock end first up to the beginning of the point taper. Then I glue on the nock and do the cresting and finally dip again point end first up to the nock.
