Good enough to get it done, but always trying for better
« on: June 07, 2013, 09:53:00 PM »
Oh how I enjoy seeing pics of folks that can shoot 3 inch or smaller groups at any given yardage from 10, 20, 30 or even 40 yrs but for me it just aint gonna happen.
Speaking for myself, I can wear the heart and lungs out of a target in no time, but 3" and smaller groups arent within my grasp, even after 30 plus yrs of this game.
Just a note for those of you that cant shoot the 3" and smaller groups consistently, dont be disappointed or become disenchanted, with trad. archery, for dead is dead, weather it be in the heart or lungs but always strive to be better.
Know your limitations and stay within your effective range. It may require you to be a better hunter for the closer shots but getting close is the key, no matter how well you shoot.
Im no great shot but I still get it done cleanly within my effective range........but I strive every day to be the best that I can be and improve with every shot with the goal of trying for better.
Im still working for those silver dollar size groups in the heart but a clean double lung suits me just fine.
Keep the faith and be the best you can be!

The baseball sized groups at 20 yards come and go for me.  It is one thing to take a pic of a tight group, it's another thing to set up my small deer target with no arrow catcher behind it.  For me keeping those arrows in the vitals and not looking for arrows in the grass past the deer target, is the big one that makes me feel good about my hunting.

I could not agree with you more Moleman.

Not only that but the whole world changes for most of us when you put a live animal in front of us as a target instead of foam or whatever we've been shooting at.

God bless,Mudd

Some days are good. Some are not so good. That's what keeps it interesting.

Thanks again Moleman!  Sometimes I wonder how everyone else is doing.  I have learned to better concentrate on one shot at a time, not the last one, or the next one, but on THIS arrow.  Cheers

Moleman described it right on.  I'm happy to shoot minute of deer and be good at single arrow shots and not losing arrows if I can help it.  Most of my groups I'm happy to get pie plate sized, but every so often I can stack em tight, usually when I'm good and warmed up and when I'm most relaxed and having fun.  I just need to figure out how to 'relax and have fun' while in the woods or when shooting around other archers   :)
