Guess I should have looked up the correct spelling of the word I wanted to use, the tip was deteriorating and I referred to it as gone. It was not completely missing. As I wrote, the bow was in "like new" condition.  When I questioned him about the tape he said he put it on the bow when he bought it to keep the string on. The bow also had the original Bear string. I do kick myself  for not making an offer on the bow and just replacing the deteriorating tip.

He also had two like new Bear cubs, without the tape on the bow tips and I bought them and a dozen microflite arrows.

Due to the shape of my bottom limb tip on my new Abbott my store bought protector flew off to parts unknown. I had to wrap ugly black tape  around it until I could get to a shoot to buy another one.

If there's one thing my kitchen has a surplus of it's baby bottle nipples. I have two 1yr old grandaughters who are here more than at their own homes. Well, after reading this thread I swiped a nipple and snipped it to size. Fantastic!

I've been shooting traditional bows for over 25 years and I can't believe I never heard of nipples and binkys being used as tip protectors.

Leather products are easy to make...they are also noisy as heck if they don't fit correctly. Getting one to fit "like a glove" is the key, but also a major pain in the backside sometimes. I definitely prefer the way leather looks, but sometimes just don't feel like going to the trouble of customizing. Just food for thought...
