3 Piece Longbow Recommendations
« on: June 24, 2013, 12:51:00 PM »
I've always used one piece longbows but want to add a three piece to my collection.  Have zero experience with 3 piece longbows.  Open to suggestions... currently I am considering proghorn or a tolke but I am open to any other quality 3 pice longbow.  WOuld appreciate your feedback... wanting a little more mass wieght to help steady my bow arm.  45-50# @ 28.5 inches.  Thanks

Dave

There are plenty of good ones.  I like my Pronghorn.

Well, since you mentioned it, I really like my Pronghorn three piece. I had two other one piece pronghorns and I sold those to pay for the three piece- and some other stuff also. I like the increased weight of the three piece.

I would also look at a Kota three piece as well, it is on my back burner to purchase.  Just not sure which one.

Lots more good ones I am sure.

If I were in the market for a 3-piece LB, I would absolutely get a Cari-bow Silver Fox.  No question.  I was very impressed with the one I shot multiple sessions with at the Kalamazoo show this past spring.

I have also spent some time with a 3-piece ACS longbow (it's hanging in my basement now), and am very pleased with it.  Good bow, with a bit heavier mass weight.

How about a 2-piece?  Big Jim, ACS, Black Widow, and others make some great 2-piece LBs.  And the no-tools TD is great... my 2-piece comes apart and goes together in a flash.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

Firefly.  Lots of good bows, but I can't imagine a bow with better shooting qualities than this one.

I went for several years under the same mindset of required mass.  In the end, form worked up my confidence.  Carrying a two or one piece in the woods or up a mountain is a dream in comparison.  Just saying...

When I thought this way I shot a few and a compiled list of excellent take-down LB's, not in any order of preference:
Thunderhorn Heartstopper
Cari-Bow Silverfox
Toelke Lynx
Pronghorn
Stewart Slammer
62" JD Berry Taipan 53@28
60" Super Shrew 2pc 53@28
58" Ed Scott Owl Bow 53@28

Not a form issue - more of a bad bow elbow that doesn't react to bow shock well.  It is more noticiable in latter years and when shooting longbows as compared to recurves.

The A&H ACS CX 2 pc or 3 pc is tough to beat. My son and I have several and don't see that changing any time soon. The team at A&H they all hunt, and are very committed to customer satisfaction.

For me it is more the way the riser/grip fit my hand than the mass of the riser.  For me the Pronghorn is the best fitting and shooting longbow.

I like my Kota Prairie Nomad. It is 64", which if I remember right, was a special order, as 62" is standard.
