Universal Bowyer's Rasp/ UBR10
« on: August 31, 2007, 03:34:00 PM »
I got my UBR10 all tuned up and ready for some raw meat, I mean wood  :D   From what little I have used this baby, it is the only rasp I'll ever reach for, honestly a very nice addition to the tool chest.
I used epoxy on the tip handle, to help keep it in place, and formed it to my liking, it's nice having that tip on the rasp, makes it very comfortable to handle.

Great job Deano!!

I received mine earlier this week and it looks like a really fine tool.  However, with elk and deer season starting in the morning, I will wait until I get back into the bow buildings mind set sometime around the end of January before rendering a judgment.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Looks like a nice rasp

Is it completely flat? How well does this work for shaping the limbs and working around little dips and such in the wood? I only used the rounded side of my #49 because I found it easier to manouver. Thoughts?

Good huntin Walt.

Little Fred!! Good ta see ya. I only used the half round side on the 49 for flat surfaces, so I can't help ya there. The great thing about this rasp is the course and fine sides, and the end cap, makes useing a rasp a dream, instead of the alternitive. It may be a bit pricey, but well worth saving up for in my oppinion.

Good to see you around too Dano. I haven't made any shavings in quite a while, but I'm toying with the idea of kinda one more kick at the can, so to speak, probably next summer. Of course I just got the idea to do this now, when I'm leaving for school in a couple days, so this is just all fluff in my head right now. We'll see what the future holds. Crafted anything lately?

I'm still wondering who Dean found to hand-stitch a rasp in this day and age!
The combo rasp idea is great and will probably work for most things, but I use my patternmaker's rasps for lots of stuff and use the round side lots.  I'd love to see Dean offer more of a standard set as well!  (HINT)

Oh, and Dano, you've got that gorgeous tip handle you worked so hard on and that red plastic thing on the other end - shameful  :campfire:
