Dilution for Happy Jack Kennel Dip to spray on clothing
« on: June 25, 2013, 02:47:00 PM »
Back a few weeks, there was a thread on home made permethran spray.

One poster recommended the Happy Jack Kennel Dip from TSC.  My local store can't keep it in stock, so I had to wait to land some.

Anyone having used this know what dilution rate to use to be safe?  It's water base, unlike the nasty smelling petroleum based stuff I got the other year and gagged using... but that stuff was clearly marked 10%...

This isn't... only marked as water base so I feel it will NOT STINK... but lack the math skills to figure a dilution rate to get a .5% solution.

Thanks for any help based on experience.

Thanks. I saw that dilution on the label, but couldn't figure what % strength that would be...

Is it 5% or .5%?  5% is a 1 to 20 ratio.  But, .5% is 1/2 of 1%.  That would be a 1 to 200 ratio.

Doh! Al, I suck at %.  I guess it's .5%... cause that is also .05... but I for a while actually wrote .05%...which is a double stupid!

Thing is that I cannot find what the concentrate's % is on the label...

Seems one would need to know what the starting concentration percentage is to formulate the end product dilution...yes?

All on t he label is that it's 17.x% Permetherin.

But that isn't the concentrate % is it??? Just the ingredient's %!

Arrggggg!

ML???  Oh, Daryl!!! LOL...now I gotta figure THAT out!

Thanks, Daryl! If I can't trust a DVM, who else?

I'll get that into Google and figure it out!

And yeah, with neurotoxins, I don't eyeball... I'll measure!

Oh, tippit!

That is so kind.  Thank you for that offer, but thank you MORE for that idea

As a person with allergies and a past hankerin to be a biologist (the former precluded the latter)I might still have some syringes about, if I can but find them in my old bio kit...

Let me look first...then I can PM you if that is still an issue.

I did some conversion on Google and think that the 2ml is like .4 of a teaspoon (now there's a measure I can't do!)... and the 680ml is right at 23oz of water.

Let me check and say "THANK YOU" for the offer. I'll be in touch via PM!

If you get light headed and feel squeezy you may want to dilute it a bit. Lol

Mark,

I'm not sure that would be a good indicator of anything wrong with my dilution... Some might say those are permanent conditons for me!    :scared:    :bigsmyl:

I posted on another thread or this one..bug spray killed my uncle. He was a game warden and died real young from mysterious causes that were finally blamed on bug spray.

This was back in the 50's and I have no idea what kinda bug spray it was. But as we know this stuff is poison.

Indeed, Don.

That was the clothing spray thread some weeks back you posted that on...

Back in Korea, they gave guys small cans of DDT to powder their privates on the battle field to rid themselves of body lice, etc!

We've learned much, but have invented even more deadly stuff...which is why I'm not going to play and asked here and got some professional advice on dilution.

Now I'm waiting on some 3ml/cc syringes to draw out the required 2:280ml ratio before mixing!

Sorry for the family tragedy of your Uncle's experience.
