Trad bowyers with a short waiting list - help please?
« on: June 28, 2013, 06:58:00 AM »
To save me having to punch into every website and search them, or write countless emails, some of you Lads in the States may know (off the top of your heads), who has a reasonably short waiting list at the moment.

I am looking for a R/D longbow (preferably), or even a recurve in light poundage.  It must have a recurve style, deep grip.  I would love to order another Fox R/C (one bow I really regret selling), or a Centaur, but can't be bothered with a long wait (their wait is now out to six months aagghh)!!

I love my New Pittsley 'Impact', and would get a second set of limbs for that, but the dealer in Canberra said the Pittsley boys are snowed under at the moment and don't even dream about ordering another set of limbs.  That was disappointing to hear - would be so easy if I could just buy a lighter set.

My Impact is 45# at 28, but with my 30" draw, is pulling closer to 50#.  That is ok, but I want something lighter sometimes that I can just mess around in the back yard and practice my form - or shoot all day and not irritate my dodgy shoulder.

It would need to be 39-40# @ 28 (which would be around 45 for me), preferably a 3 piece T/D (much cheaper than a one-piece to Australia for postage), and R/H.

If you know of any good bowyers who could fix me up, let me know.

Toelke usually runs about a month from order to delivery.  A lynx with longbow limbs should fit your criteria.

I feel your pain... i've been wanting a new set of limbs for my Brackenbury for a while now. It's a two year wait!!! Because of the price & the wait I switched to a DAS. It's nice to know that I can get different limbs for much cheaper with just the click of button.

Good luck in your search.

RMS, a sponsor here, has a large inventory of new and used bows.

Big Jim, another sponsor, has custom, factory, and used bows in stock.

If you can get by with a 2 piece bow take a look at Great Northern bows.

I'd try TallTines. I believe his longbow list is very short now on the brand new hybrid--which sounds like what you are looking for. He may have a real nice low poundage recurve in stock.

I think you would be very happy with a Liberty Bow. Allen's locator grip is great, the bows are beautiful, and you'll have it at your door surprisingly quick.

Wow - thanks guys, sounds very promising.   Late here now but will check it out tomorrow.

I already had a Toelke Whip - may try something different.

Check the bowyers' websites. Many have new bows in stock that may fit your needs.  I'm partial to ACSs and Morrisons.  Both have bows, riser and limbs in stock.

X ? with Toelke

If you can pull from stock that would be good. Cari-bow, Toelke, Dyrad, Stalker and Bruin all show sock items. I am sure there are others but these I have seen lately

Buy a stock bow from Stalker. Toelke is the way to go for short order custom. He makes a wicked bow too.

Dan Toelke has made me more bows than anyone has a right to have and the longest wait I have experienced was 29 days from order to delivery. Dan's grown son Jared works with him and his shop is organized efficiently and very well-equipped. Still, it surprises me that in a world of 6 to 18 month wait times that Dan turns out such superb bows in the time frame he does.

Thumbs for Toelke.  Not sure how you could get a better custom in a shorter time.  Keep in mind with stock bows to CALL the bowyer first to make sure a bow featured on the site is actually available.  Made that mistake once and got a refund instead of a bow cause I was the eager beaver and just 'clicked' and paid over the weekend without double checking.

Black Widow... 6-8 weeks on customs.  They have partially finished bows that can be had in two weeks.  Longbows and recurves.

I will second both Maddog and Liberty.

Mike and Allen both do excellent work. last I talked to Mike I think he was only at about 9 weeks' wait time.

not sure about Allen at Liberty at the moment. both guys are very accessible and helpful as well.
