TR had a bowhunter mentality

I received this quote from an old Army buddy; Theodore Roosevelt said this in a speech in 1910. I know he didn't mean it at the likes of us guys who carry sticks around the woods, but i thought that it was an appropriate quote pertaining to our sport.

Yeah, I don't think that great quote applies to our current leadership. That means it is so much more important the we, the people, remain ever caring about our freedom and responsibilities. Our concern for our sport and our hunting rights is very much at the core of preserving all liberies for all Americans. That is why we must be strong and effective role models for all - not just our fellow bowhunters.

One of my favorites. The man had as many faults as the rest of us but because of his strengths we still have wild places and things that many of us could not live without.

Before we get too carried away on politics we should read some history (from his wiki) "Roosevelt was a Progressive reformer who sought to move the dominant Republican Party into the Progressive camp", TR politics were extreemly close to the current administrations.

It is one of my favorite quotes.  it is the basis for the title of the Charlton Heston book.

Nah. He did a lot for hunting and conservation but he was a liberal when it came to his politics.....we don't need another liberal

Very interesting person and led a pretty amazing life.  Highly recommend the two biographies " The rise of Theodore Roosevelt " and " Theodore Rex" . Great books.  He crammed a lot into a relatively short life.
