One Shot, One Squirrel
«

To help me unwind from a long, frustrating day at work, I grabbed my bow and one arrow and headed out for a little squirrel hunt in my back yard. This girl, at 15 yards, with all her quickness was no match for my 75# Fedora and a GT 3555 tipped with a SS Bear Razorhead.
The entrance wound was right between the shoulder blades. I told a friend one time that it's a mystery to me how the arrow goes where I'm looking- it happens sometimes.
Just in case Dr Ashby didn't cover this scenario in his research, I can assure you that this set up is ample for tree rats
.
Thanks for looking, have a great night.

Thank you for sharing! Not only good to see on a summer day but it answers a nagging question..."is 75# enough for squirrels?"... LOL

Nice shooting. Good thing it was a killing shot with that first arrow. I hear those things can turn on you if you have to track them when they are wounded.

Mike,
What you can't see in the photo is my Outdoorsmans Edges knife that was at the ready for just that contingency.

Nice! Not only good for gutting and skinning, but a defensive weapon as well.

Perfect shot! 75# bow and a broadhead! You went rhino hunting and ran into a squirrel. And you spent 10 minutes digging up your arrow. lol
Was the squirrel looking at you when you shot, or looking away? (real question)

RR,
I guess you could say I was overbowed, but this bow just flat-out shoots for me, so I grab it most of the time.
The squirrel was facing me up on her haunches, looking around in sentinel fashion, but working at digging something out of the ground intermittently. I waited 'til she was digging to take the shot, as her attention was diverted (I've seen some amazing footage of squirrels dodging inbound arrows). That's how I got the between the shoulder blades entrance.

OK, so you waited until she wasn't looking, I thought they might be able to dodge. I know where some squirrels are, I'm going after them. Thanks

I had one dodge an arrow at 3 yards. No joke. I wasn't shooting 75# though. The arrow may have gotten there fast enough if I had been.
