Your style of shooting, who does it most emulate
« on: July 04, 2013, 09:46:00 PM »
After shooting long enough, we all develop our own shooting style but it seems that most of us generally base our personal style on the style of one of our many pioneers or very accomplished personalities such as Hill, Bear, Mr. Asbell, ETC.
Who would you say that your style of shooting most resembles?   :campfire:

Never had a mentor in my life so I guess I am a truly instinctive shooter.

"Topic: Your style of shooting, who does it most emulate?"

me.

all that matters with a free form aiming sport such as archery is consistency, ACCURATE consistency.  we're all different in many ways from physical to mental.  while there are some guidelines to archery consistency, only you can define and hone the form that will work best for you, your tackle, your hunting.  attempting to copy the form of others for the sole sake of emulation is pointless, fruitless, counterproductive and will never allow your best consistent accuracy.  ymmv.

depends on what position I'm shooting from and what type of bow I'm shooting.

speaking of folks that are still alive I wish I had Ron Pittsley's accuracy along with Pat Lefemine's full draw - anchor time, then shoot in my many styles..... it would almost be too easy!

I was taught by my dad -- an accomplished bowhunter.  Then I started gap/instinctive shooting, which dad didn't teach me.  I think a lot of Howard Hill's explanation of "split-vision" shooting when I shoot. And I've gotten a lot of tips from TradGang.

But I have my own style, and don't try to emulate anyone.

What Rob said.....

In my own mind I'm Robin Hood...lol

But that's only when the bows I shoot take me down the path to "Sherwood".

With all due respect there are not really all that many different ways to accurately shoot a traditional bow. When you think about how long people have been shooting them, I strongly suspect some of the "legends" mentioned earlier shot the same way many before them did. That said, I agree completely with what Rob said in his earlier reply.
