do I need brass inserts-Beman MFX
« on: January 19, 2007, 02:41:00 PM »
I just bought some Beman MFX classics 500's and I'm shooting a 45# recurve at 28", at my 28.5 length maybe 47#.  I have yet to bareshaft or put them together, I'm just wondering if the 100 grain brass inserts would make them too weak even as I cut them down.  I'd like to stick with the 145 grain field point.  Set up without the inserts, my arrows would be around 450 grains range if left at full length.  Is that enought to get good penetration on a deer?  Or should I add the brass inserts?  Thanks for the help.  Wish they had a 50 grain for an insert.

All you have to worry about is whether they fly well...you can hot glue the inserts in to play...try the brass and the regular...if you end up without the brass, you'll still be picking up bloody arrows on the ground where a deer once stood.

I would likely end up with the brass inserts off that setup...29.5" arrow.

You can cut the 100gr brass inserts in half to get 50 gr inserts

I used the Standard Insert by my mfx Shafts and glue the PDP Weights (10grs and 30grs) in the Shaft. So you can finetuning your arrows.
