I bdownloaded this app on my Iphone about an hour ago and for my 65 pound Hatfield, which I pull 27" so that would be 62#,with 450 grain arrows I averaged 192!Now I have never put my bow through a proper chrono but I will try to do so soon and compare the results.

Cool. You say this app, where did you find it and is it available for androids?

Very cool! I'd love to hear how accurate it is.

HHHHHmmmmmm......     :saywhat:

Curious as to how a chronograph works from a phone.    :dunno:

You're using kind of a light arrow for that setup. Right at 7.26 grains per pound. Could be hard on your bow at that weight.

I tried one on my iPad a while back. It works based on sound.  I've never run an arrow through a real chrono, but I felt like my iPad readings were too high.

Your app might be new and improved. Let us know when you find out more.

I have a couple real chrono's - if you give me the ap name u can try it when I get back home and give accurate comparison. But I can't see how it would be accurate based on sound.

My Widow must be going 300 fps if it's based upon sound.  :D

I will post pictures and more details later because now I am taking a short brake from work. How the app works is this.
It gives you a field that you put a distance from target. I set mine yesterday exactly at 12 yards.
Then it gives you a field that you can put your arrow weight. That's optional and to calculate KE.
Then you have to place your phone somewhere between you and the target. I put mine last night on the ground.
Parenthesis here in order for the app to work you have to be in a relatively quiet environment . It doesn't have to be dead quiet but quiet .
Then you press the button for the countdown .you have the option for 10,15,or 20secs.
After the dude starts the countdown and gets to one I wait a second then release.
What it does it measures the time of the sound of release and the sound of impact . It gives you a number of speed in feet per second that's nowhere near the speed of your now but then fine tuning comes in place and that's where it's all at.
But more about that when I get home.
It sounds complicated but after you do it a couple times it becomes a piece of cake.

Sounds just like the one I used. That is what I meant by "based on sound"....Thanks for taking the time to explain  :)

Go to your App Store, type in "archery chronograph" and it will bring you to it.

Sounds just like the electronic timer used to measure trigger time between shots. Just giving it to you in feet per second. As long as the info you enter is accurate, I can't see any reason why it would not be quite accurate. Never cared how fast my bows were, but for 99 cents, what the heck, Just downloaded it myself. Thanks

Josh Perdue

Just downloaded it and shot my RER XR at 20 yards with a 9gpp arrow and it said 203, 202, 203, for three shots. I think it might give a little bit high readings although Ive never shot it through a real chrono.

Pat B.

I'm curious, how do you fine tune to get believable results?

pcg

Found it on iTunes and almost pressed Buy. Then I caught myself, asking, 'Do I really care? No, I'm shooting bows I love and shooting for accuracy. Speed's irrelevant. It's another gimmick.'
