VPA 3-blade vs. VPA 2-blade vs. Woodsman Elites

I will be hunting with a 52#@29" longbow this year for deer and elk. Will probably use 150-175 grain bh's possibly with a 100 grain adaptor. I like the idea of the 3 blade for deer, not sure about the penetration on elk. I would appreciate your thoughts/experiences with Amy of these using a similar dw and dl bow.

Toby, I shoot 55 @ 29. Carbon Express 350's. 50 gr insert with the 175gr VPA 3 blade. In one word. AWESOME

Have had excellent results with the VPA 3-blade on deer with that poundage, both the 1 1/8 and 1 1/4's

3 blade is no problem for deer at that poundage, can't speak to elk. As you know the VPA 3 blade and Woodsman elites are almost identical (same manufacturer). For what its worth, the 175s are a good bit longer than the 150s, which could help penetration. Great heads.

I've been playing with different bows and arrow set ups lately, but am coming back to what I used last year.
55 @ 29 recurve, with either CE 250 Heritage or GT 5575 arrows, each with a 100 grain brass insert and a VPA or Woodsman Elite 175 grain 3 blade.
That will be my set up for antelope first, then elk, followed by a couple months worth of whitetails.

Hey Joe,
Just settled on a similar deer set-up here: 55/75 Beman Centershot, 50 grain brass insert, 250 VPA 3 blade, Magnus feathers. Unfortunately, weight is 595 pulling only 52# or so, but flying well.

That should be plenty of weight out of that bow Will. As long as they are flying good you'll be blowing right through them!

I prefer the two blades simply because they are a bit easier to sharpen...a 200 grain 3 blade performed very nicely on a bear I shot with it..I was showing it to one of my friends and he mentioned that it was still sharp enough to hunt with...not sure how you could go wrong either way
