Facemask...what's your preference?
« on: July 18, 2013, 11:28:00 PM »
I've been relying on a hat and burnt cork, but I like the convenience and cleanliness of a face mask.

Do you prefer mesh or solid? What brand? Pics or links would be helpful. Looking for something to use in warm weather.

Thanks in advance.

Early season I wear a mesh thing that I bought at wally world for about a buck. There are probably 5 of them laying around my house. I wear that under a stocking cap. I also have a scentlok hood that I like fine except the bill touches my string when I shoot and even though it's flexible it bothers me to no end. This year I think I'm going to get a Kuiu  stocking cap and neck gaitor for year round. They are merino wool and run about $40 bucks for the pair. If you are looking for cheap though and something for the warm weather there in texas go get a head net from walmarts sporting goods section.

I use the camo "buff" brand.

I love it. Very versatile.

One never agreed with me. Gets kinda of messy with tobacco juice, so I stick with paint.   One of my buddies wears a "buff" and speaks highly of it.

I sweat easily, and don't care for face paint for that reason.  I have a number of different face masks around.  Some mesh, some fleece for cold weather, and some in between.  If I'm moving I generally will tuck it up under my hat and pull it down if I get into game.

I like the 3/4 bandito mask.  Has a wire ring that adjusts over the nose.  It slides down around the nick if I want to do something, then slips back up quick.  Wrap the elastic around the back of my cap and it stays secure.  I never notice an issue when I draw and hit anchor.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I use a cheap mesh full mask for Cabelas for most of the year here.  Also helps the the Mosquitos.

Number one is face paint - Hunters Speciality is the only one I will use any more.  Stays on all day even when sweating and comes off readily with a bit of soap and water.  I am more likely to paint up when elk hunting as I walk more and don't want to have to worry about putting on a face mask when I see an animal.

Around home for only a couple hour hunt I'll use a 3/4 face mask I got at Cabelas.  Fits fairly tight and is quite comfortable.  I have used the loose fitting face covers but always worry about the string interference.  My Spandoflage is in a drawer someplace and I haven't felt the need to look for it in 10 years - never liked it.

Spandoflage for me.  I like the 3/4 style.

I only wear one for turkeys and early season deer.I finaly found one that doesn't get in the way when I shoot and doesn't make my glasses fog. I bought 2 because I seems like when I find something that I like, they quit making it!!!
Kept the tag in my gun safe too,in case I have to find another.

Like Gator 1 I use the primos brand that fits tight against my face.  It has a cut out for the mouth and eyes.  Finding your anchor and getting good string clearance is easy.  I use the full version, but they make a 3/4 too.  Actually, I like both, but I lost the 3/4.    :knothead:

Same here but I use the 3/4 primos face mask.
