Anyone Go Veggie?
« on: July 28, 2013, 09:22:00 PM »
I was reading that (some?) native american tribes would not consume any meat during "a time" leading up to a hunt so they would not smell like a predator.

Anyone ever follow these guidelines themselves? Any stories to share?

Hah!
I hunted with a fellow one trip and we agreed to try this out. For dinner Friday night I had a big salad and he had brought a large container of French onion soup.
As we ate I asked him if he'd made the soup himself. He assured me that he had. I asked him what it was made of.
"Well, onions, cheese, beef broth... oh, oops."

For the record, we didn't get any deer.

Not many hunting trips go by that I don't eat deer jerky. I think it's more effective than a carrot.    :D

I can see how this is true.Personally I have tried in the past,2-3 times in my life,to eat just fruits and vegetables for about a month. In the first few days as the body detoxifies ,all sorts of nasty things come to the surface but towards the end ,even when I sweated from exercise I didn't smell bad at all.

I always enjoy PETA bread before a hunt (you know:  People Eating Tasty Animals!)

I do avoid garlic, though......

I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years, so I guess no big deal for me with the pre-hunt stuff.

I am about the only vegetarian hunter that I know of.

I wonder....hmmmm?

Maybe going veggie was just a native American's barometer... letting them know...it's time to go hunting... we're out of meat!!...lol

I'd rather take chlorophyll tablets and still eat meat.

I have heard of this before, but I wonder how long a person would have to go without meat before it no longer would affect his body odor. Would it really make any difference?
