Coating on top of gasket lacquer???
« on: September 03, 2007, 07:55:00 PM »
I've got a couple dozen woodies with a ChekMate Falcon I bought this spring.  The arrows were made "professionally" so I'm guessing they have gasket lacquer on them.  I've got a couple I want to refletch that have the coating and cresting scratched off in places.  What is compatible that I can re-seal the fletch end after I sand the old glue off and get ready to refletch with tape?  Thanks for your thoughts.
Steve

TTT, ah, come on.  Someone has to know what will work over gasket lacquer.

Hello?  Anyone?

As far as I know the gasket laquer is acetone based,   you may be able to use a water based sealer over top of it, ie. a polyacrylic or equivelent. BUt don't quote me on that.

SOS:
Gasket lacquer is lacquer based. Just because they are professionally made does not mean they are gasket lacquer finished. That said use a acrylic or oil base finish. Oil based will be a better seal and harder.
