First Hike w/New Pack
« on: August 11, 2013, 12:27:00 PM »
I stuffed 20 pounds of birdseed in my new Eberlestock JP-9 Blue Widow pack this morning and took a little 5-mile hike.  Mostly paved road, so I wore my running shoes, rather than boots for the first trip out.

Pack rode great!  Back held up fine.  Legs and wind were good.  Did get the beginnings of blisters on the inside portion of both heels, though.  Not sure if this is due to my hiking technique, the shoes, or the plain cotton socks.  Will probably try again next weekend with hunting boots and wool socks.  Silks, too, ya' think?

It's the cotton socks.  I've got to where I never wear them at all for any outdoor activity.  If it's hot enough outside for my feet to sweat in wool, then they'll sweat in cotton too and wool wicks moisture better.  If it's too cold for them to sweat in wool, the added warmth is appreciated.

Thanks, guys!  I would normally wear wool with my boots, but since it was running shoes....

I know...."Obey all rules!"

I have always been a believer in 2 prs. of socks. One sticks to your foot, the other sticks to your boot but allows movement in between the two. Never had a blister.
