Soverign Ballistic, how do they rate & what would a good second hand one be worth?

Bjorn

A friend has one that I have shot a number of times.........I rate it right up there-great bow. No idea of value; purely a matter of 'I want it'.

heydeerman

There is a lot that goes into the answer to that question.

What are the woods?
What is the length and draw weight?
How does the finish look?
How many scars?

I just sold one that was near perfect for $500.

Butchie

No idea on price but they were always very highly spoken of.  In a word...FAST!

I had one that that I traded which had the triple flare with Burl cocobolo and tiger maple riser, Tonkin cores with tiger maple veneers that cost me 1250.00 when the new black widows where 920.00 so if I still had it I'd try to get 600  but wouldn't sell it for any less than 500.00 and I think its just because I was the original buyer and its age now.   if you find someone who picked one up used it may be a lot cheaper but John made A grade wood bows and he made AAA grade wood bows, and because he passed away I'd say that ups the value too if you find something unique..

Fantastic design,  fast and smooth. Poor finish.  Benefit from the addition of materials that add torsional stability. Do not ever string it by any means other than the selway cup and block, which he included with the bow.
I used a tip to tip one time on it. Popped out of the stringer and my limbs were toast. Delaminated on the next pull back. Was my favorite bow. I still have the riser with a set of limbs a fellow tradganger graciously made for me.

Mine cost $525 new in 2008. Bubinga riser, shedua limbs, bamboo cores. No frills hunting bow.

Festivus

Wow! That is an awesome bow. I really wish someone would bring it back.

I have been keeping an eye on a particular bowyer that may be rolling out something very similar.

The Storm Eagle is very close but I changed the interior build to get better stability. I just developed a new limb off of that that I am testing to work both on top mount and belly mount.; Will be hunting with it this season and making some minor changes.

Didn't want to out your bow before it was ready Steve.  But now you have let the cat out of the bag.

No problem, I could not let such a fine limb design go into oblivion. However I am now working on improving that. I really want the dynamics of that limb in a belly mount bow.
I have been blessed to have several sold already as soon as I get it tested and refined. There always seems to be room for improvement.

I am been thinking about one of John's bows for year, but I waited too much   :banghead:   They always had a great reputation.

Lyonel...that is a beauty. Scoop it up before someone else does. I have a 60", 53@28 and it's everything you want in a bow. Smooth draw, dead at the shot, fast. John was a very gifted bowyer.

pamike

Can't wait for Steve's belly mounted version!

I think all I have seen were very heavy in draw weights - never found one I could try.

It was on the big auction site, Iwas keen but I got cold feet  at the end not knowing how well the bow had been looked after or strung. I went to $500 & it sold  for $520. Bit disappointed i didn't go a bit more. Maybe next time.
