175 grain screw ins?
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:12:00 PM »
I shoot 47#s at 25 1/2" Super D.  I need some 2 blade 175 grain or so heads for my carbon setup.  What are your recommendations?

Thinking 175 grain Tiger Sharks or 140 grain SB Grizzly's with aluminum adapter?
62" Super D, 47#s @ 25-1/2"
58" TS Mag, 53#s @ 26"
56" Bighorn, 46#s @ 26.5"

I just bought the 140 Grizzlies with a 36 grain x-long adapter. No kills yet, but pleased as punch.

If you are actually getting 47#s @ 25 1/2", either would probably be alright; however, if your bow is marked 47# and you are drawing 25 1/2", I would lean towards the grizzly's.

Just ordered some 140 Grizzlys from Bill.
I plan on using the long AL adapters.
I draw 27", shoot 53# at 28".
I think they'll work fine.

The 175 VPA Penetrators  I used last year worked well.

The 175 grain Woodsman Elites work real well. They fly great out of my Leon Stewart #45-#50 longbows. I also use the .500 Beman Centershot carbon arrows cut at 29".

You try the VPA's and you will never buy anything else...they fly true...easy to sharpen...tough...get some 175 small game thumpers too
I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

You may be kind of put off by the small size of the Penetrator...compared to what compound shooters are having success with they are still huge...small and tough have been proven to be better

BWD, I draw 47#s bay e a little better at my draw.

I'm leaning towards the Grizzlys because my woods  shoot 145 grain field tips.  But I have to say those Sharks are impressive!  My only concern is sharpening the sharks

Thanks TxAg.  I have some 42 grain long adapters.  I was thinking of just turning them down to 35 grains, but if I can buy them I guess it's better.   New to adapters, but I guess that would work.

That would work. I've had good luck taking a pair of wire snips and snipping the last 1/8" or so off, then using a file to smooth it over. Usually takes about 5 grains off.

I'd go with Strickland Helix. I've used 100, 125 and this year 200 grain versions. Devastating!

I can give you an even more complete formula...no messing with adapters (I use 100 grain steel with my 125 grain Eclipses)...screw those VPA Penetrators onto Easton Full Metal Jackets with the hit inserts...they mate like they are a solid unit...pricey yes...worth the price...without a doubt

How about zwickey with long aluminum adapter?  Maybe a piece of lead shot or three to make weight.
