Baselayer Clothing Suggestions

What do you all use for Baselayer clothing for cold weather? I use ASAT Camo. I've been looking at the First Lite wool products. Quality gear but pricey. I thought I would see if you all have suggestions before I start buying clothing...

Any Suggestions?

I use Indera mills products. Made in USA and priced right. Either polypro or the wool depending on my intended activity and temp.

What's the difference between the poly and wool?

The polypro is lighter in the version I have and I use it for earlier in the year and longer, shorter sits. I also have the poly military stuff that works well also.

The wool is very warm. I make sure I almost have nothing over it on the walk in and use it for late season long sits.

Under armour cold gear. The stuff is incredible. It fits tight and wicks the moisture away from your skin to keep you dry. I will not hunt in the cold without it.  It's a little pricey but worth it.

Woolpower Ullfrotte Merino Base Layers

200 gram under KOM wool keeps me warm when it gets really cold.  Still need a wind stopping layer when the wind is howling.

I live and hunt in S TX so we don't get much in the way of real cold weather (40 degrees is like freezing cold to me. I don't know how you northerners make it as cold as it gets up there!) but I love my UA Cold Gear and have gotten rid of every pair of regular cotton longjohns I used to own.

My favorite, without a doubt, is silk.  Nothing better as a base layer.

Any wool base layer should perform great, but Merino wool has great advantages over other synthetic and natural materials.

I read a review by Guy Eastman some time ago and I think he did a geat job at explaining the layering basics and what to look for in the different layers.

I'd go with wool. I got some last year and love it! U don't need first lite. There are other brands

Checking out wool power now... Those of you who use wool undergarments. What weight wool do you recommend?  Wool Power offers 200gr or 400gr wool.  

I have decently heavy pants and coat.

I always start with a layer of silk - great stuff.

I have some 400g woolpower, its good stuff, just a bit to bulky.

Finally broke down last year and bought some merino wool,  minus 33,  absolutely love the stuff.

I like minus 33 the best.

I like wool even though I live in the south.  I wouldn't go more than 250 grams.  I'd just put 2 if I needed.  A wind proof vest really makes wool shine.
