How short can I go?
« on: August 19, 2013, 12:07:00 PM »
I have a 28.5-29.0 inch draw length (when I measure with both hand palm to palm in front of my chest-28.5", when I measure my draw to the front of my bow-29.0").

My question is: How short of a classic D longbow may I shoot comfortably without stacking and string pinch problems?

I would probably stay with a 66"er at a minimum with a 28 - 29 inch draw length.

I'm a little longer than you right about 29.5 and I like minimum 66" but 68" and up is my preference.

68" I would not go shorter-short is not an advantage with a classic longbow.

Thanks, guys! I was hoping to shoot something in the 62" area for hunting out of a blind. Doesn't sound like that's advisable.

Check out the Super D from Dan Toelke. You could probably shoot his 64". Might try sending Jim Wright a PM. He shoots a 64" Super D with a 29" draw.

I would recommend a 64" bow minimum.

Longbow,
If you call JD berry, he is making a forward handle straightlimbed bow that he is making down to 62" without stack up to 29".  I think you will be very very pleased with it.

Thanks, Brian. After looking at his bows, I now have a JD Berry Renaissance o my wish list! Those are beautiful bows!
