Silvertip brace height (set up and ready w/pics)
« on: August 21, 2013, 06:03:00 PM »
Ok guys. I just received a Shafer Silvertip that belonged to a good friend who has passed on. Holding it I can feel my chest swelling with emotion. I sure do miss him.

I'll write a little more later, but for now I'd like to get a quick response on the proper brace height for this bow.

It's a 62" TD.

Here is a picture of my buddy Mark Harris taken several years ago at the "Texas Sweat". Mark made the kill at 25+ yards. He was a great shot.

Sorry you lost a great friend.  I too lost a good one who left me a 1996 Bighorn Special Edition.  I shoot my Silvertips around 7.5".  Good luck with it and cherish ur bud memory as u carry it.

Charlie,

Sorry for your loss. Dave recommends 7 1/2-7/34, all of my 62' TIPS seem to like just shy of 7 3/4" from the deepest part of the grip.

Thanks guys!! I sure appreciate the brochure Rick.
I made a new string for it and after it settles over night I'll twist it up to proper brace, install silencers and Bowhush and I'll be ready to rock.

What little shooting I did tonight shows that it's speedy. It seems to like my 2216's and I'll push some carbons  through her to see how they work.

This is fun. I've always wanted a Silvertip and this one is extra special.

I love the Silvertips both of my 62" bows settle in at 7 5/8". I hope you make a bunch of kills with that special bow.

Hey Charlie,

I'm sure your buddy is smiling, knowing you'll be spending some time with his bow in hand.

I've found the 62" tips to be the quietest right around 8" from the deepest part of the grip.   I'd also recommend a 12 strand dyna 97 string with rubber silencers and a little padding in your string groves.  The 62" bows tend to have a touch of limb vibration and the rubber silencers seem to take it right out, especially on longer draw lengths.

Take care buddy......Tim

What Tim said.....

I have both a 60" and a 62". The 62" has noticeably more limb vibration. A little higher brace height and rubber whiskers really helps mine.

Best of lick with your bow, I'm sure you will make your buddy proud!

I like to set my 62" at 7 3/8" from the deepest part of the grip. I use a 12 strand D-97 string with Cat Wiskers and find it to be smooth, quite fast and quiet. The only thing that I personally don't like is the checkering and will not order that option again.
Charlie, I know that you will do the bow and it's former owner proud so go get um.

Shoot straight,
Grouse

As promised here are a few pictures of Mark's Silvertip. The brace height ended up at 7 3/4" as suggested by several... thanks guys. I installed Hush Puppies and Bow Hush on the 18 strand 8190 string and she's ultra quiet and FAST.
