With hunting season fast approaching for most of us that aren't in season already. I wanted to take a second and encourage everybody to pause and evaluate their level of health and fitness. Before I rub anyone the wrong way please understand I'm not trying to knock anyone or preach that you have to run a marathon to enjoy hunting. But what I want to bring to attention is that we take it upon ourselves to head out in the wilderness throughout this great country and often by ourselves, with few knowing where we're at or how to reach us. Most of us think ahead enough to carry some kind of first aid, and wear a safety harness while in a tree. But I know a lot of guys that never give a second thought to their health and fitness. With that being said, if you fell out of a tree wearing your harness could you get yourself back in the stand? Especially if your cold and wearing heavy clothes to keep warm? If your hunting with a friend and they suffer an injury could you get them out of the woods? Or make it quickly to get help without falling out yourself? Of course all of this is worst case scenario and once again I'm not trying to upset anyone. I just want to encourage everyone to keep up with their most important weapon in their hunting arsenal, themselves. I encourage everyone, if your not doing something for your own health to start. Take 20-30 min a few days a week and start walking, or running. Some of the best tools available to stay healthy and strong are free and given to us by The Lord. Start doing some push-ups and pull ups during the week. They don't cost a dime and will keep you strong when you make a habit of doing them. I hope everyone here has a great season this year for whatever your hunting. And I know you can't prevent every accident and tragedy but being strong and of good health can help stack the deck in a lot of cases. Good luck, and stay safe.
