2 BLADE BROADHEAD RECOMMENDATIONS
« on: August 29, 2013, 06:52:00 PM »
I've been shooting NAP Hell Razors for the last 5 years with really good results. I am interested, however, in switching to a two-blade for a couple of reasons a.) to explore the better penetration claim and b.) change my archery landscape a bit. I haven't shot two blades since my bleeder-less Bear Razorheads of my youth. Lay some suggestions on me. Best, MT

I have a lot of friends who shoot Magnus and swear by them. Leaning that way.

I bought a box of tapered cedars from the 60s with Bear Heads on them.  It turns out that they are still great heads.

I think a lot will depend on what weight you are wanting to shoot. I am having a hard time finding a good one that is 150gr.

Magnus I  or Zwickey Deltas for me.  I like the wider cuts these two have.

160 gr. STOS. They shoot true and are easy to sharpen. They have a tanto tip for strength.

Depends on what weight you are getting into and how much you want to spend.  I'm partial to Zwickeys and Magnus because they are reasonably priced and sharpen well for me.

You mention you've had great success with Hellrazors. Have you gotten complete pass throughs with them, or only partial pass throughs? If its a penetration issue, a single bevel, near 3:1 ratio two blade would be a good choice, such as a Grizzly. They come in many different weights, so finding the right head should be easy. If penetration is not an issue, a 3 blade would probably produce better blood trails. Personally I would choose a Magnus I, Zwickey Delta, or a Simmons Tree Shark if you want great 2 blade blood trails.

Lots of good ones mentioned.  I picked up some Grizzly heads recently and can't believe how sharp they get. Haven't tested them on an animal yet, but I'm very pleased so far.

I agree with okla bearclaw. You will not go wrong with any of these suggestions.  I would think most any common popular brand name would serve well, because if they were lousy they would not draw great popularity to begin with.

I'm hunting with Steelforce 2-blades (with bleeders) this season.  I can't testify as to their hardiness yet, but they feel pretty stout and fly very well for me.  They sharpened up very well with my sharpening block.

Anyone use muzzy phantom w/o the bleeders? Makes a 200gn 2 blade...
