Why 145 grain field points?
« on: August 29, 2013, 10:23:00 PM »
Just curious as I am trying to test different field points and wondered why they only have 145 grain field points when the broadheads are 150 grain?

If a 145 grain field point flies great, what happens when I put a 150 grain point on?  Why don't they just make the field points to match broadheads?

They have 100, 125, 175, 200, etc field points that match broadheads.  So what is the deal with 145?

I doubt 5 grains will make any difference at all.  I sure can't shoot the difference.

Don't know.  I simplify and use 125 gr field points and blunts and shoot 125gr & 130gr broadheads.  ;-)

145 grain Tusker broadheads. 5 grains won't make a difference though.

I doubt if this is the reason, but I've always consoled myself with the thought that I sharpen a few grains off the broadhead before I ever use it, and the more I sharpen it, the closer it's going to get to the 145 grain field point.

X2 on what McDave said. Especially on the initial sharpening.
If it still bothers you add a few small #6 shotgun pellets or tiny fishing weights to the point.

Ive checked field points and broadheads on a grain scale, and both have been off 2-3 grains. If you want there are different weighted washers made for arrows that go behind points or broadheads.

even carbon and alum arrows have a +- of 6-9grains each, feild points range 4-5grain, thats a big spead, I weigh arrow and heads and I adjust them if there to far out, with soder or resin.

Ok thanks for the feedback.  I'm not really stressing on the actual weight.  I just couldn't understand why the manufacturers match certain broadhead weights with fieldpoints weights but decide to go with 145 versus 150 grain.

I think the way I shoot, 5 or 50 grain difference won't matter much.   :)
