Old Bear Minuteman....String length help
«

Hey, I lucked into an old Bear Minuteman takedown recurve that is in decent shape and would like to shoot it. I've made endless strings for recurves by copying the old strings before, but this bow's markings have me confused and it has no old string.
Limb markings state 2 lengths/weights:
60"-50#
66"-45#
Why the two markings?
Also, if it is a 50lb bow and a 60AMO bow, what would actual, measured length be? Thanks.

There were two different riser lengths that would give you two different bow lengths with the same limbs. The Minuteman is a great little bow, with laminated maple limbs. You can tell the actual length by measuring from string groove to string groove around the .belly side of the bow. Then make a string 3" shorter than that, and you should be in the ballpark.
Good luck

Thanks Scattershot,
That makes sense now with the two different length risers. This riser is shorter than the 76er has, so hopefully the shortest listed length will be this bow's length/weight.

When I make up a string for a bow that doesn't have the old string I like to measure the actual nock to nock length. And then I'll make a string up 3" shorter. Some bows are not marked as accurate as what is wrote on them.
