Anyone hunting with an old Bear this season?
« on: September 02, 2013, 09:46:00 PM »
Just curious. Let's see your pics or hear about your set up. I picked up an old Bear recently. Not my go-to but it might be fun to take it on a hunt or two.

What do you consider old? I have a Bear 76'er that I might try deer hunting with this year. It's exact same model, color and weight as the one I had when I was a teenager.

I use both my boo-backed hickory longbow and my 1958 Bear Kodiak, as both shoot the same arrows very well.
Good luck to everyone this season.
didn't understand - now I do.

1962 Kodiak bought new by my Granddad. It will see action again this year. I missed a buck with it last year, I was so excited to get a shot with it I didn't pick a spot     :banghead:      :banghead:

I took pics of my 70's Super Grizzly up at camp today, I'll get some up soon. I have to upload a bunch to PB anyway, too pooped tonight...

It's 50#@28", I really loved how it shot (just got it off the classifieds last week), it seemed to like the 50's compressed cedars I restored that resemble vintage Bear arrows from back then.

It will probably be my #1 this season chasing whitetails here in MI, especially when I head up to Grayling to my brother's place for a couple hunts.

I've been using my old 47# 1967 Grizzly for years, and my youngest son Tyler has been using his older brother's 40# 1969 Grizzly.

This summer, I picked up a matching pair of 50# 1972 Grizzlys for us to hunt with. I also picked up a pair of Jack Bower "Side Stalker" quivers for us. Riding in them will be some old "Autumn Orange" 2016s tipped with old green Razorheads.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I'd say if the bow was made before my birth year, it qualifies, haha  ;)

Here is a pic of the one I bought recently...

I have a 50# '70's Kodiak hunter I will be hunting with this season, if I become proficient enough. I just made the switch to traditional a few months ago so I may have to use training wheels for another season.

I have a 70's model Grizzly, 45 lbs, 58", I'l be hunting with this season.

I bought my oldest brother a brand new 78-79 model Grizzly when I was in high scholl, 50lbs. He shot maybe 30 arrows out of it all those years, then gave it back to me 2 years ago. I gave it to my son and in return, he gave me the 45 lb Grizzly. One of his buddies gave the Grizz to him [one I have]. in mint condition.

Have a '67 Tigercat that will see action this fall, 45#@28, probably in late season. Will be taking a Browning Cobra II in early season as my primary-brought home the venison last year so it gets the first nod.Just like using the older bows that still get it done efficiently.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I have an old Bear Cub that was my grandfather's I hope to get into a little early season action.  I don't know what year it is not a ton of info on Cub's due to lack of collector interest but I think it's about a '61.

I will be going out with a 1968 Bear Supermag this year. I started shooting it because it is only 45 pounds & I was working on my form, as my form became better so did my shooting & I'm now liking the supermag.

I'll be hunting with either a vintage Bear or an Owl self bow. I'm not sure which Bear I'll start with yet. I have it narrowed down to 6 or 7 options.
I would like to hunt with some of my '63's, since they are 50 years old this year.
