How to prevent robin hoods?
« on: September 05, 2013, 12:22:00 PM »
I am recently having a disturbing number of destroyed arrows from bad luck robin hoods. Breaks my heart (and my wallet) to see a good arrow go this way. What do you do to prevent them splitting?

I've got a pile just like that! The only way to prevent it is to shoot only one arrow at a time or shoot different spots with each arrow.

It is bittersweet though! It is a sign that you are really shooting well, and at the same time, is money in the trash can!

Pull your arrows sooner or move back from the target.

I put "Carbon Express Bulldog Nock Collar" for the "Aramid KV 350" on the backs of my Heritage 250s. I drove one arrow right through the target with another last fall, and neither was damaged beyond this:

On my 350s I'm using .25" of xx78 2315 shaft as a rear footing for the same purpose. I haven't had a hard impact on this setup yet but I hope for the same results when it does eventually happen.

I find that plucking the string helps to avoid them.

Dropping your bow arm and "peeking" to see if you get a robin hood pretty much prevents them too.

LOL! I did all those and I still get split shafts. As I said before those are due to bad luck not skill.

Shooting out of "the bucket" has worked well for me.

Ask anyone who has been here shooting with me about this little trick....lol

I've gotten more lax over the years and am not as insistent that everyone has to shoot out of "the bucket" these days.

It might help by "footing" 1/4 inch  the nock area of your arrow (buy from 3 rivers or make yourself)
As we get older our bow weight goes down and our body weight goes up, One of Lifes little jokes.
