Here's what I got.........
« on: September 06, 2013, 01:21:00 PM »
I had a 60# Hatfield take down some months ago, got rid of it thinking it was too heavy a pull for accuracy reasons, not because I'm scrawny  :)
Now I have a Kaibab recurve 55# and I feel better about my weight class. It's not nearly as pretty as a bow as some of the works of art I see on the forums, that's why I cammo wrapped it, I got it for functional value anyway, not as a wall piece. I love shooting stick and string, though I do own a wheeled up PSE as well. I'm just not confident enough in my accuracy to risk bringing my recurve to the field this season. I figure by this time next year I"ll not only have a few wall hangers, but that I'll be confident enough to do my first traditional only deer hunting season.
I made a makeshift sight from some tooth picks and glue, and added a couple limb vibration dampeners, it's a quiet bow. All you hear is the swoosh sound of the string cutting air in your right ear. I shoot my recurve every day in the yard, there's a 27yrd stretch between the house and garage, so I'm sure over time I'll be a great shot at any distance.
Good luck to everyone taking to the field this season.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

I've got a friend who put a match stick sight pin on his longbow. He called it his "lighted" sight pin.
I eventually shamed him into taking it off of there.

Bring those Sims Limbsavers down too the fades on the inside.   You will see a small improvement in performance, and they will work just as well.

Oh bring the dampeners down you say ? to the fades on the insides. Ok, thanks for the tip. That's just the reason I was looking for to get out of the house and into the garage  :)

Gator1.....what's that about the Coon Rapids trad shoot ? I'm in Brooklyn Center that's just up the street. I applied for the metro bowhunt there last year but didn't get selected.

Remember you have to take it to the woods. I know way to many guys who worry about their accuracy and use that as an excuse not to bring it hunting. Keep your shots close and shoot only if it feels right. You don't have to put all your arrows in a spot the size of a softball at 20 yards, as long as you can keep them on a paper plate at 10 yards you will do fine. I know a guy on this site that if you ever saw him shoot at 3-D targets or paper you would say he should never be allowed to take his recurve hunting. Guess what?, he has killed more tropies than anyone I know on this site from Alligatos(14ft)to Zebra and everything in between. I say practice a bit and take it out hunting!! Shawn
