The mountain grouse we have in my neck of the woods are few and far between and danged clever. They normally flush before I see them. There is more than one of my arrows stuck out of reach in the trees. Extensive management and a lack of hunter interest in recent years has recently brought numbers higher than ever in my (relatively short) life. I can count on one hand the grouse I saw in 20 years as a youngster, stomping through these woods. In my last outing for squirrel this year I saw three in one outing. Something not even many "oldtimers" can claim. A bowkilled grouse is a fine trophy here, and I am in hot pursuit. Great thread, I enjoyed it
Thoroughly.
