Thanks everyone, My uncle has not been hunting for the last couple of years due to health reasons but I can tell you, he knows he is with me sitting in that tree. I think of him often sitting there.
when I was twelve he was sitting with me in a tree stand he had made back before manufactured stands. He gave me the training and tried to prepare me as best he could to deal with the challenges hunting wild game would bring. A few doe were working their way into our setup. As the deer got closer he was whispering in my ear giving me the instruction like so many of us have done to the little ones trying to learn to be a predator, as natural as it is for us to want to succeed in harvesting our prey we learn just like all predators do by making mistakes. And when the upper limb of my bow moved, brushed something or just made a slight noise the deer became aware of our presence, they looked up and saw two boogiemen sitting in that tree (well one and a half boogiemen anyway) they were gone my arrow in the dirt, I was heart broken and my uncle simply said I’m glad you gave them a chance, next time they are in trouble. He was so happy and excited, he made me feel like I had just won the super bowl. I will never forget his teaching and how gentle my Uncle Charlie’s mannerism was. He is a good man, and a great uncle.
