This is a little belated but I spent opening weekend and Labor Day in a stand overlooking a wallow.
Had some other hunters come by the stand and kinda mess up my area a little and had no legal elk come to the water. That however, didn't seem to mess up the bears daily routine...saw 4 different bears (one a little cub) and had an extremely close encounter with one black bear.
I got down from the stand during the heat of the day to sit in the shade. Around 2:30 pm I got up to get back in the stand and saw a blackie coming in.
I stood still as he got in the water, messed around a little on the log, walked over and grabbed my trail cam (caught him in the act as up till then I only had pics of the crime) bit it several times, (about 8 yds away) then started towards me. He had no idea I was there, and the wind was right, and when he got to about 4 yds I let him know...and he promptly left
In the wonderful state of CO, the bear hunt doesn't start on the same day as deer and elk so even if I had a tag I could only watch
Here are some pics and videos (hopefully)
All in all I had a great hunt and will be back at them soon.
