Today I'm reminded why I don't like hot weather hunting

I've nearly scratched the skin off my legs because of chiggers!!!!!! I moved to NC from the mountains of WV where it's cooler and our bow season didn't used to open until mid-October. I've tried for 8 years now to embrace this hot weather hunting down here. This time, I've got chiggers as a "thank you" to my efforts. LOL Man they itch!!!! What do you southern boys do for chigger prevention? I'm allergic to DEET ...just thought I'd throw that out there too.

I have had rynoskins for about 8 years and I wear them all the time early season under my hunting clothes. I have never had an issue with ticks or chiggers with them on. Can't say the same for scouting trips when I forget them. You probably will have to wash them after each hunt because they do soak up sweat and spell pretty ripe but they definitely work

Take it from a guy who got multiple chigger bites two years ago while tracking a shot deer. Both legs and midsection were covered. The permethrin sold in sporting goods stores or wally world helps tremendously. There is no real relief from the itch. Maybe an epsom salt soaking in the tub could help. Also Benadryl.

Spray your clothes with Permanone (permethrin) spray available at Walmart and other sporting goods stores. You spray your clothes the night before and let it dry.
Many of us mix our own from bulk liquid you can buy at tractor Supply, pet stores and other places.
I know many folks that swear a swig of apple cider vinegar every night will keep ticks and chiggers away.

Benadryl makes a spray that's pretty effective at stopping the itch, at least for a while. I was mowing a few weeks ago and must have put my right foot right in a nest of chiggers. Itched for a week before I found the Benadryl on a shelf in the house. Good luck.

Learned my lesson last year and took the advice given here....Permetherin!! Spray it on clothes, boots, socks....let dry.....chigger and tick free!!!! Literally night and day difference in experience. Lasts awhile and then reapply. It works! Thanks Tradgang.

Permethrin for prevention. For relief rubbing alcohol cools the itch. Also, the hottest shower or bath you can stand should give several hours of relief. Benadryl oral and/or topical can help too. I've also heard Zyrtec is a good alternative. Do not do stuff like nail polish that's an old wives tale.
Also I should add--->. Shower and scrub immediately after coming back from any trip into the bush. Often the worst biting from the chiggers happens when you don't bother to rinse yourself off and the bastards are hanging out on you biting over and over. It's their saliva that causes the itching. They do not burrow into your skin.
