Wingnut, Trashwood and Jason elk adventure 2007
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:34:00 AM »
Well we are scheduled to leave for Idaho on the evening of the 15th.  It has been real busy for the past week trying to find an alternate area to hunt.  Seems the state of Idaho is throwing a big BBQ in our normal area and they frown on weinie roasts when the woods are on fire.  LOL

With some help of some friends and some total strangers we are retargeted, retagged and ready to go.

This year we will be test driving our new wall tent.  Jason and I have wanted a good one for years and decided this was the time.  It's a dandy at 16' x20' with 5' walls and an internal frame.  I know it's big but I wanted one that would be hard to throw a boot across when I'm snoring.

We are putting the finishing touches on our arrows and Jason is finishing up his bow.  I know it's real late to build a new bow, but heck the customers wanted their's first.

I'll check in as the days go by and see if I can get ol' trashwood to chime in too.

Getting excited with 7 days to go.

Mike: That's great that you were able to get your hunt re-sorted in the face of the fires. Hope you get some cool, damp weather in the interim to quiet the woods and reduce fire danger. You can often get longer-term weather predictions under the fire weather tab on the NWS site for your area. Wall tents are such classics for elk hunting.
Man, I wish I had an elk hunt coming up.

You should be able to carry the whole kitchen for that tent so you and jason can have a "cook-off"! Cant wait to see the new "trophy" page on the dryad bows website when you guys get back. (for those of us that are living life vicariously through you guys)....
give em hell and take lots of pictures.

Brent,

Heck that tent is not for cooking.  We have the 10 x 20 kitchen tent for that.  LOL

Yep the "big kitchen" goes on this trip for sure.  Five burners, oven, grill, two prep tables and a new 25 cup coffee pot.

Should be able to feed the three of us.

hey Mike, moving to that new hunting area is good news for the rest of us in a way I guess. I really dig following your hunts with Jason and Rusty, and sure enjoy the pics that go along with your stories. Well, most of the pics. Now that you boys are hunting in a new area, I can rest easy knowing I won't be reading your posts over the next few weeks, and then suddenly find a computer screen full of you and Rusty waving to us from those dang bathtubs you put by the hot springs! I have heard some folks required therapy after viewing that photo, so please don't move those tubs to your new camp!    :scared:

OK, for real now, have a great hunt, safe trip, and let us know how it is going. John

(I'm busting nocks now that I got my Dryad blank carved into a bow, thanks again for all your help with it!)

What unit you all in?  If you are in the sawtooth/ 36 unit/ by sunvalley or stanley, we should hook up and share a (unfortunately) virtual campfire.

Steadman,
I am in the "sawtooth" unit, it is composed of the area around Stanley, north of Sun Valley.  Not sure where Diamond Fork is.  I would love to get together  with any of ya'll.  No cell phone use up there, so we would have to probably arrange something beforehand....
