First of the Year - First with New Bow
« on: September 25, 2013, 02:02:00 PM »
Took this button buck last night, first night in the woods this year.

An hour and a half after getting settled in, he entered stage right. I had a few opportunities to try and pull of a shot, but the risk of getting busted was too high.

I let the scenario play out, as he was on a heading that would bring him 12 yards quartering away. As he was entering my shooting lane, I stood, drew, and loosed the arrow.

I hit him about 2.5" forward and high of where I'd have placed the arrow for a perfect shot.

The instant the arrow struck, I new I'd be watching him go down in sight. He didn't make it 25 yards. How blessed...

Equipment:
Bob Lee Ultimate
Gold Tip 55/75
VPA 3 Blade....

I can't believe that I've been archery hunting this long, and last year was the first year that I've used these broadheads. I have so much confidence with my arrows being tipped with VPA's...

Good luck out there.

-Matt

Brad - Thanks for the kind words buddy. I see you're from Altoona. You should be within driving distance of WMU 2B aren't you? Early Doe Season is great to shake off the cob-webs and get into primal mode again...

I'm shooting 55/75 @ 29.75" long. 100 Grain brass inserts, and 250 grain tips. Total arrow weight of around 725 grains. 14.2 grains per pound, its like a freight train blowing through!!

bowhuntingrn - 250 grain screw ins. I love them!

Nice job!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
