Sitka Blacktails on Kodiak Island (anybody)
« on: September 25, 2013, 09:58:00 PM »
If anybody is interested in going let me know? I have made arrangements to go to Kodiak Island over thanksgiving to hunt deer. This will be my fourth time going to the same place. (Larsen Bay) As of now I am going by myself. I am going with a transporter not a guide. They provide a place to stay in Larsen Bay, good food, and drop you off and pick you up by boat everyday.

This was last year.

Good luck and I'll be watching for the pics and story.

Marty

Did you go and buy a Lynx? Wish I could go this year.

I was a transporter captain for this outfit for three years.  Affordable, cozy place and Terry makes some great food.  You get breakfast in the morning, go out with lunch and come back to a warm homecooked meal.  Her blacktail stroganof is outstanding!

For those interested you can also fish halibut and pull crab pots for tanner crab.

AK residents can also hunt mtn. goat via registration hunt.

Best of luck sir...

Can you give us a clue what a hunt like this would cost once we got to Alaska ?

I would love to someday do this hunt.

Got that one planned for 2015.  Been wanting to do it for a long time.  Good luck, wish I could go this year.

Yes I bought a Lynx off off here. It is a prototype.
A non resident license is $85 and the deer tags are $150 each you are allowed 3 deer. The cost of transportation from Anchorage to Kodiak will run you around $400 round trip, Kodiak to Larsen Bay $250 to $300 round trip depending on how much gear you have. And probably $1,500 to $2,000 for Monday to Saturday at Larsen Bay.

The average temperature is usually in between the mid 20's to low 40's. So it is not real cold. It can be pretty windy, with snow squalls. The weather can change several times during the day. I have had problems getting in and out of Larsen Bay due to the weather but once I have got there I have always been able to get out and hunt everyday. It seems to me like the peak of the rut is about the third week of November. I would have actually preferred going a week earlier than I am but my work schedule would not allow it.
