Tyler and I went fishing today instead. Caught a bunch of smallmouth and largemouth. We even caught a couple big walleye...they were really good for dinner.  Tyler even caught a pike too. A good day with my boy!

I haven't been out at all.  My Mom just got out of surgery about an hour ago - triple by-pass and a valve replacement.  Kind of stressed us right out!  I hope to get out Sunday morning for a few hours locally and enjoy the woods.

Congrats to those that have put a deer down already. I've only been out twice since the 1st and have yet to see any deer. Hope to be out Saturday morning in westchester.
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

I made my hunting story to share today... I can't even post a teaser picture from camp.

Thanks guys.  She is doing pretty well and is awake and off the ventilator.  So I will get out in the woods a little this week-end.  The weather looks great for the next few days.  Maybe a little too warm, but it will be great weather to be in the woods!

Not much time to hunt this year with my new job and getting things ready around the house for winter. I scouted back on the state land in a remote area a mile behind the house yesterday. The area has several white oaks that are the prime focus of the local Deer this year. Tough spot to hunt due to it's location and the topography of the land and the constant southerly winds so far this season. My side of the hill is where I need to be due to time restraints. Going this morning to set up a tree stand in a pinch point that should see some action once the bucks start cruising more. Also going to hunt an area near where I work in Elmira. I'll be able to hunt the spot for a couple of hours after work. There will be little scouting and hunting from the ground only. Iv' been told there are some decent Bucks there.........we;ll see.........hopefully. Off to the woods I go, good luck everyone.

Went out this morning, had a lone doe come in at 730.  She came in straight at me, then broke off to my right.  I had a good broadside shot at her as she stopped with her vials framed out be tow tree trunks.  I had a hard time focusing on a spot, kept worry about hitting the trees, so I didn't shoot.  she was on a steady walk, I turned for a shot to my fight, but it was so still, I was afraid to move my feet so the noise wouldn't give me away.  I wasn't comfortable with the shot, so again, I didn't shoot.  She was about 20 yards at that point.  That was it for the day.

Went out this morning to sit a ground blind and then set up a tree stand in a pinch point. One of my local Does came by. I haven't shot any of the Does on my land in 5 or 6 years. Their numbers are down and their what draw the bucks in for me, so I don't shoot them. There is a young Buck hanging out where one hangs out every year. He has several scraps and I noticed a new rub this morning. I may have to see if I can get him if other plans don't work out. Trying to hold off for the mature Bucks that should start coming around in a week or two. I first want to check out that spot near where I work. If it looks good, I would be able to hunt it after work during the week. No time to hunt my land after work as it takes too much time to get up there from the house.Going to be a tough year getting time to hunt, but that's life!   :banghead:

Thank you Dave.  I appreciate it.  My mom looked really good this morning and is getting out of intensive care as soon as a bed is available.  I did get out and sat in a hemlock tree for a couple hours this morning as the sun came up.  Great morning.  No deer around, but it sure beats sitting in a stuffy waiting room!
