Glad you're OK Ken.  I had a home-made one slip a foot while I was standing in it and the feeling pops the wax out of the 'ol ears.   :scared:

Wear that harness!

I didn't get out today but my wife finally connected on mature doe with her recurve. She walked right into a group of bedded deer on her way back to the house after 3hrs on the stand.A small buck stood up and she shot under it but a doe jumped at her shot and made the mistake of standing broadside to her at 16yds.She's been off all week and spending every minute she could in the woods. So glad it paid off for her !

Ken glad you were not hurt. But if you are up in a tree stand and am a big guy over 200 lbs we do not bounce well as young and light bow hunters...that why this fat, bald, 280 lbs, 72 year old fart now sit on the gound. I fell less than 12 feet and broke my right leg in 9 places 20 years ago. The amount of deer I take has gone down by being on the ground, but when you shoot them it is eye ball to eye ball. OPlus if you fall asleep in the chair on the ground, the most you get is being pushed to being wide awake...

keep safe all you tree hunters and ware a safety harness...

I missed again!  I still hunted for 5 hours yesterday and saw 15 does and 8 bucks.  I had a 17" 10 point chase a doe by me at 20 yards but my arrow missed the mark.  a clean miss.  I won't be able to try again until Monday.  Good luck to all, and be safe.

I have about a dozen or so tree stands that i have acquired over the years. Last year i noticed the cables had rust on them so I called the mfgr. for replacements. Too expensive. So I went to the web and got some 3/16 steel cable, crimps and a crimping tool. Now all the stands that were rated for 300 pounds are 800 pounds safer. Next Spring/Summer I will take some of the tools to the woods and fix up the ladder stands. Laura and I also use life lines like the ones that Summit offer and never ascend/descend without being hooked in. By the way....it was less than $100 for the cable, crimps and crimping tool. Cheap for 12/13  "new" stands.

Larry...nice going. Got some pics we can see? I know I'm from NH but spent most of my childhood in Brooklyn and East Rockaway and started to hunt in Westchester when I was 12. Wish I knew then what I know now.

Thanks from the wife for your kind words.I just came in to get a coffee, check my emails, and then get on the tractor to go get a flathead I just shot.I botched the shot at 10yds by not leaning out from the stand and my bottom limb hit it.I missed by several feet with a loud "BONG".Lucky I had a young dummy who went 15yds and stopped to look back ; bad move .I hit perfect 2nd shot and watched him go down in 50yds.Wife saw a nice 8pt pushing three does but she was on the ground and got busted. What a great morning with action aplenty.Go get em !

Congrats to all that have connected!

I use the lifelines too and it is the only way i hunt now out of a treestand. great idea on replacing the cables.

I'm very fortunate to be having so many great hunts this year. I just wish we were hitting better with our first shot.I believe the DEC has it right about how high the deer numbers are in Genesee and Wyoming counties. My wife and I have been into deer just about every time we've been out around Batavia and friends have told me they're seeing up to 25 deer a day in the Alexander area. Our turkeys seem to be down but we got deer. Good luck to all this weekend .

My deer numbers are down here in my part of Steuben county, I have managed to find them about 50% of the time while hunting. Going out this morning to see if a buck will chase a Doe in front of me. I'll be hunting a mile or so behind my house on the Erwin State Forest. Good luck everyone!

Going in the AM early on Sunday......Bow only Zone East of me.......Hope'n to see some movement and maybe some action. The journal I keep tells me I see the most action around Veterans day. I hope it continues.......LOL!
