Thank God I'm a hunter
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:19:00 PM »
I've come along ways since I shot my first deer. One thing that I've learned that it's so much more about the hunt rather than the kill. My senses are awakened during the hunt.  The smell of wet leaves and rutting bucks, the vibrant colors of falling leaves and sunsets, the sounds of southbound geese and the howling of coyotes, the taste of beechnuts and wild apples all make me feel alive.  And when morning's first ray of sunshine touches my skin, I feel God's presence.  I thank God for the hunt, for I am a hunter.   :archer:

As my father told me when I as a young man killed my first whitetail....the hunt is fun now the work begins....you sentiments are why I mainly hunt alone - to absorb the beauty and wonder of God's creation...

Thanks for sharing...

Thanks for that! My sentiments exactly.

Nice post!

I'm also thankful that many years of hunting has made me more appreciative of God's creation, and more more aware of my surroundings.  I believe many practiced hunters generally notice stuff about weather, wind, plants, trees, animals, and even potential threats, that a lot of non-hunters do not.  It is great training to be still, observant, and take notice of little things.

Can't wait to sit in a tree this weekend.

Well said . Its not about the trophy its the hunt and the time alone with your creator .   :coffee:

Yeeeeah buddy!  My first two hunts the past few weeks I haven't come upon squat for deer or hogs but have found some good sign.  Just being out there on the stalk was rejuvenating!
