I can think of a few things to suggest calling you, but nerd would definitely not be one of them!  :)

Started with B-50, then went to D-97, TS-1, and now using 8190. Makes a great string....very quiet and durable.  Still using B-50, though, on my old Bear bows.

Nerds are my favorite people.  Chad thanks for the great info. I will be grabbing some 8190. Now if I only had that old DVD, Doing the Twist (lent it to a guy), I might make some progress!

I use fast flight plus. I don't know what it equates to as far as SK65 Dyneema or SK75 Dyneema. All I know is I make an 8 strand string with it padded to 18 strands in the loops with B50 and it is a very quiet string that stretches very little after being made and once the initial stretch is done it doesn't stretch any more.

Like Charlie i used D97 & 8125 for quite awhile, then i had some strings made out of this new Rhino string.... i have to say this... i can have a 12 strand string test the same as an 8 strand D97 and its a LOT quieter. the rhino string seems lighter in mass weight to me.... depending on the builder, it doesn't creep at all or take time to settle in like the other strings I've had built..... i'm seriously impressed with the stuff.

if you pm me i'll give you the string builders name.... Kirk

BBH, pm me an addy and I'll help you out.

BCD, thanks!

The 8190 is one reason BCY is dominating the industry--that, and their customer service is second to none.

Chad I pm'd you. Kirk, thanks for the offer but I need to grow up and learn how to make my own. I started building bows (I know, I know) and got caught needing a string length I didnt have.

to make all of this string stuff lots easier, there are basically two string fiber types these dayze - hmpe (lotsa flavors and trade names like dyneema, vectran, spectra, etc) ... and then there's good ol' b50 or b55, which is a polyester (dacron).  hmpe will always have less stretch and creep than dacron.

i have loooong since stopped making and using dacron bowstrings in favor of any quality hmpe string material.  i've used just about all the flavors and always come back to straight dyneema, specifically bcy's df-97 or f8125, but truthfully, any of the hmpe's will work well.

yes, if you do a LOT of experimenting with different hmpe string fibers you will probably find one that works a bit better with a particular bow.  not too many folks have the time or money to go that route, so just get a trad gang stringmaker sponsor to work with you on a good string for yer bow(s) and yer gonna be good to go, promise.

For me that TS1 tears unexpectedly. I wonder if that is why they quit making it?

The over-all market drives the industry.  Some lead, others try to catch up.  If it's not selling, it won't stay around long.  Our side of the sport is barely a blip on the radar, but BCY is listening.
