a recurve for a short draw

I almost hate to admit it, but my shooting form left handed is better suited to a recurve. I have a rather short draw left handed, due to a neck injury, 26.5".  I am looking for ideas, I know that some recurves do not always perform up to expectations with that short of a draw.

Come up to Kalamazoo in January and shoot a bunch of bows that way you know you have the right one for you. Or look into test drives from some some of the Bowyers on your list.

Give Bob Morrison a call. He shoots a 26" draw and knows what works best at that draw length. He made a set of Max I limbs for my  wife and her 26" draw and even though they were a "try 'em out" set of limbs she would not let me send them back.

I have a 26 inch draw and had Bob build me a bow with the Max1 limbs and Phoenix.

Also, Dan Toelke has made me a few bows for my short draw and they are also great performers.

A lot of this depends on your draw weight. on higher poundage recurve bows you'll find a lot more of them out there that do pretty well at a short draw length.... but a lot depends on the limb design.

The ultimate would be to order a draw length specific bow that performs nicely at a lower brace height. if the shorter draw length archers can shoot a 7-7.25" brace and still get good arm clearance it really helps on your performance.

i custom build these in both static tip and semi-static that would work like a dream for you.

I'll second the Two Tracks Ambush. I have a 27" draw and my Ambush is my best shooter. I shoot 3 under and use a feather rest BTW.

Like Kirk said, a short brace gives the best performance. I have a short 26" draw. I have bows by Maddog that have a short brace. My Machetes(46" bows) have braces of 6 to 6.25". My Kaliska (54" bow) has a brace of 6.5 to 6.75".

I also have a couple of bows from Sierra Blanca bows by Jess Stewart. They are modeled after the Rocky Mtn Recurve. My 52" bow I like braced at 7.25" My 50" bow likes 7.5"

Both makers have bows that are great performers at short draws.

The advantage to a custom bow is that it can be built longer if you prefer. a 62" or even 64" recurve can be built draw length specific for a shorter draw length and have a much better string angle than most the shorty's offer.

Those TimberGhost bows seem like they would fit the bill.  I'm seriously considering one even though I have a 28" draw.
