Well the 18 hour drive home is over, I had a few hours sleep and all is good. We had a great time. Didn't see as many deer as we thought [ to warm?] but game was seen and shots taken. I was concerned about hunting in a antler res. area but did see a legal buck and after deciding that he was legal took the shot and promptly missed him clean. Gary in our group took a nice doe. Ken and Jeff saw some game but no shots were taken. Turkeys, coyotes and tree rats were also seen. Learned a lot, what great deer habitat.

Now to the story of my miss......We found a good bit of sign in a dry creek bottom where a tractor path crossed. Good tracks in both directions and wind would be good. So Ken [KAT] and I flipped a coin and I won the sit. Got to the spot at 3:45 and trimmed a few things to give me 3 shooting lanes. I set up my Waldrop Pac seat put on my leafy suit top and face mask a got comfortable.........   :campfire:

After things got calmed down the normal parade of Blue Jays and Chickadees kept me on my toes and then things got slow. At 5:15 with the wind in my face I caught a bit of movement to my left.....horns!!!! The wind was in my face and I watched the deer move into the zone. It has to have 4 on one side I tell myself....it looks like a 6 point. At 20 yards he is  behind a small willow and I see no brow tines. He steps into the center lane and can only see 6 pts.,3 on a side.

Now the buck steps forward and then turns around. I can see he has 4 on one side, no wait he's a 4x5...Green light!! He starts to leave and I see a window to shoot thru...... I draw and center the window of opportunity I see him enter and I release. Just a nano second to soon and I whatch the arrow go right in front of his brisket and into the creek bank........I missed clean. It's been a long time since my last shot and even with a miss what a feeling!

I really was amazed at the terrain out there in Missouri. Hardwood fingers, creek bottoms, good mast crop, corn, soy beans, green fields.......Deer heaven......LOL!! I feel that I will return!

Did Jeff see anything?  I know he didnt shoot, but did he see anything?  I would hate to wait until Late January to hear his adventure.
