Looking for a 50's style recurve
« on: October 05, 2013, 10:35:00 PM »
In my search for a custom I think I have it narrowed down to a 50's style recurve. The 50's style recurves are very simple and appealing to me. I was wondering what bowyers are the "go to's" for these style recurves. I am looking to something silky smooth, quiet, and dead in the hand. Not looking to brake the bank either if all possible.

Thank you,
Josh

Mike Dunnaway of Wild Horse Creek Bows makes two such bows.  Will send a PM with his contact info.

I did take a look at the killum, liked the look and the price. How do you like the killum recurve?

The Kota Killum is a great bow. I would still have mine but I just can't shoot narrow grips well.

Toelke just came out with a sweet looking static recurve.

Great Northern Ghosts are pretty fine 50s style recurves.

Then of course, original 50s bows are pretty fine as well. You can buy a 57 Kodiak for $250 or less and it will shoot right with any bow mentioned above.

I think the best 50's style recurve is a 1960 Kodiak...I paid 325 bucks for my last one, a very nicely refinished 64 inch

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I love the bow, have a thread on here about it, picked it up in June. Easy to shoot bow. Tim had a handful at a shoot I was at and I grabbed one.

Kohannah Kurve is the best one I've shot. I liked it far better than the GN Super Ghost I had.
