help me pick a longbow
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:20:00 PM »
After shooting a friend's Dwyer Endeavor and seeing it hit where I was looking...I'm thinking strongly that it might be fun to add a short longbow to my stable of recurves.
I want a bow around 58" with a decent grip or thumb locator, quiet shooting, and if it was cut as far past center as possible would be great.
Give me something to investigate.
Which brands have proved reliable and easy to shoot for you?
Thanks for the ideas.

I like Maddog as well.  Beware...once you try a longbow, 1 won't be enough   :goldtooth:

It would be hard to get the smaller riser longbow cut past center like a recurve. The riser is usally not strong enough.Look at the size difference on larger riser recurves. There is a lot of nice shorter longbows out there. Can be a personal choice, you should try some out if you are able to.For me I like my 58" Kanati, well made, points well, nice grip and a great shooting longbow in my opinion.

If the Endeavor shot good for you. Then get yourself one. The Dwyers are great bows. I have the Dauntless and Endeavor. The Endeavor is what I am taking to the woods this year.

There are plenty of nice bows to consider, personally I have found none that match Dan Toelke's "Whips". See them at  www.montanabows.com

I think you found it

I wouldn't consider another option based on your review of the Dwyer you shot and liked

Just my 2 cents worth

Hey Irv....that Dwyer is a darn good bow. Shoot what fits. I have used Shrew "short" longbows for years, they are a great hunting tool.

I would at least take a look at the Dryad Phoenix...I have a Dryad longbow made from a blank..it is fast and quiet with good materials well put together

DDave
I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

58", quiet, and an awesome thumb locator grip? I think 'Toelke Whip.'
