Last evening I set up along a grassy logging road that leads to one the small fields that I love to hunt. The road is lined with beech trees. Every year there are multiple scrapes and rubs all along it. About 5:50 last night I had a 6 pt feeding along the road toward me. He got to about 25 yards, and I heard another deer coming. I peeked over my shoulder to see this buck walking straight toward the 6 pt.
They proceeded to spar right there beside me for 3 or 4 minutes. The 8 pt was slowly pushing the 6 pt into my shooting lane. I could have shot the smaller buck while they were locked together, but waited for the bigger buck to give me a clear shot.
The shot was 18 yards. I hit him back toward the last couple ribs. I knew he was dead, but I didn't want to push him. I started searching this morning (no blood at all). He made it about 200 yards.
I shot him with my DAS riser w/ Dryad ACS RC limbs (43@27). I absolutely love this setup!!
I will get some better pics this afternoon. Time to go to work.
Had to wait for my son Evan to get home from school for some good pics!
He had to try dragging it...may need to grow a little more!
