Pop-up blind for 64in. bow
« on: October 10, 2013, 10:22:00 PM »
I am looking for pop-up blind that I can shoot a 64in. longbow out of. Any suggestions who sells or makes a tall blind? Thanks

Good luck!  I shoot 64" or longer bows and I usually just end up building a quick natural blind.  Ghillie suits work too!  Never found a blind that I liked.

Don't those Barronett blinds have a model that is like 80" tall?

I have an Ameristep Bone collector which I bought to hunt w/ my 12y out of. If I cant my 64" SS Toelke bow I can shoot well, but if I have my son in there with me, no way. The Hidden Hunter blind may be what you are looking for.

Primos Club xxl at cabelas is 78" tall.  Plenty of room, good blind, not too pricey...about $216.

i just bought the Ameristep Bone Collector Brotherhood blind. it's really tall and roomy and much better quality than i previous thought Ameristep provided. it also has the vertical windows that you need if you want to shoot sitting down.

edit - 72" tall.

I stuck a limb tip(60" bow) through the Barronnett Grounder 350.  So I also got a Big Mike.  Both are very good blinds for the money($105, shipped, from an internet source for the Big Mike).  I'm keeping them both, but each has it's shortcomings.  The G350 is roomy but not real tall.  The Big Mike is taller but has a small footprint and I am almost literally against the back wall when I extend the bow and arrow in front of me.  And.....it's NOT tall enough to shoot while standing, unless you are very short.  And if you are short, the windows are a bit high to shoot while kneeling.  Forget about having a second person in the Big Mike, unless they are small and not hunting.

If you cant your 64" bow, and practice from it so you stay conscious of the roof, you'll be fine.  The same limitations probably apply to Double Bull and the others.  However, if I were looking for my first one and had the money, I think Double Bull is probably the best on the market, because of it's versatile windows.

i agree with oldbohntr about the windows. that is probably one of the most-overlooked features when looking for a blind.

There is a lot of discussions about blinds and cost.  I have had a Double Bull blind for years ( tall version ) for recurves.  The cost is more, but mine will last me the rest of my life.  I have hunted, deer, elk, javelina, turkeys, etc and would not trade it for anything on the market.  My hunting buddies have cheaper versions and always have problems, then want to borrow mine.  :archer:

Before you buy any check out the Hidden Hunter blinds.  I will never go back to a center hub blind.  Hidden Hunter is the way to go.

I have a Double Bull "Double Wide" and have no trouble shooting my 64" recurve out of it.  I have a nice Huntmore chair that swivels or I can shoot from my knees.  The blind seems very well made but I haven't used it much.

The blind is fine for shooting, spending any time in it is another story.  I've found that I loose about 90% of my total visibility and as a consequence about 90% of the fun of being out there.  A very effective way to hide from game but I feel like I'm hiding in a dark closet and peeking out at the world...and missing a lot of what is going on.

Meathead, based on your post I just re-watched the Hidden Hunter video.  Having just spent the better part of a week hunting from a Big Mike, I feel competent to comment on blinds this size.(not saying that you aren't, so let me know if the HH is actually better for some reason.)
It seems to me that the rounded shape of the HH is actually a problem for recurves and longer bows, because it allows less room for upper limb tip travel.  Also, the smaller footprint makes it harder to raise and draw the bow w/o spooking the animal. That's what I found about the big mike.  Unless I'm nearly against the back wall, my broadhead will be out the front window before I start the draw(admittedly due to my particular shooting style).  The guy on the HH video does exactly that with their blind.  Whether or not you have the mesh on the windows, that's kind of an invitation to failure.  Not impossible to deal with, but another thing to take my mind off what I'm supposed to be doing!  I've not yet been successful using a ghillie suit and Waldrop chair, but am not at all sure it's not a better way.

I have the HH 6x6.  I can't imagine it not being big enough to handle any bowhunter.  I have also had a double bull and a primos center hub blind.  They both would cave in with a wet snow or hard wind.  If it thawed and refroze there was always a nice frozen ice cube to have to bust up out of top before you could get it back into shape.  The only time I have had to reset the HH was with a 50+ MPH wind.  I know a lot of guys like the hub blinds.  I have just found something that works better for me.

I plan to order the Primos XXL on Monday. It is 78" tall.  I just measured my 58" bow's limb tip height when I'm standing with the bow vertical. It is 80" (I'm 5'6"). I'll have to squat a tiny bit or cant the bow a tad. I don't mind shooting sitting down as long as my seat is high enough to keep the lower limb off the ground. I do it all the time in my tree stands.

I could buy the Big Mike (one is 80 and the other is 84") but I think the Primos is better quality?

I have never hunted white-tail deer from blinds except for a 1 day hog/deer hunt in Texas a few years ago.

I was wondering if you have the version with snake eyes?  I have a snake eye big mike and love it.  I can shoot kneeling or setting no problem.  I am 5'-10" and shoot 60-62" bows.

The big mike stacked down with hub ropes staked handled 60 mile winds last week and it is doing great.  I have room to have one of my kids hunt with me.  I do have to be close to the back wall, but I don't think I personally need a larger blind.

I use a doublebull recurve model for my 64" bow, only shot at turkeys out of it but the bow clears good for me.

I have an Ameristep.  I think it may be a penthouse.  I can easily hunt a 66" bow from it and I am 6'2" tall.  The only thing I don't care for is the windows are cut kind of high.  I wish they went down a few inches lower.  Great blind for me and a child or two or two adults.  Tough to hide though as it's huge.

I bought it in January on a huge sale.

Ameristep Penthouse is tall and wide. The fabric isn't the best compared to a DBull but if you don't leave it out all the time it would be good.
