Grizz BH with a file?
«

With all the hype and positive things I keep seeing about grizzley broad heads I can't help myself but want to try some out as well.
Right now I'm shooting stos and love how easy they sharpen with a file. Can I get the single bevel just as sharp or sharper by using the same file?? Seems like most guys are using KME which I don't have and if possible I would prefer to just use a file to get them sharpened for hunting.
Thanks

A file will work fine. I wish I had the money to buy everyone that has trouble sharpening a 16" Nicholson single cut file. I sharpen Grizzlies with a file and ceramic croc stick. They get nasty, sticky sharp.

Hi Levi, I hunted with older style Grizzlies for years and only used a file to sharpen them. It used to take a lot of work initially to get the bevel right on the old ones, but once you did they were easy to touch up and maintain. From what I understand the bevel is much better now.

Im sure a KME would work. I use a Lansky sharpen system and it takes no time at all. Then run them over leather to knock the burr off.

I saw Two tracks put a edge on a Grizz last week with a file.
Didn"t take long at all.
Looks like the way to go to me.

You only have to keep the correct angle while sharpening and don't use heavy pressure. You only need light pressure to get a smooth sharp edge.

I use a sharpie to color the edge, then I sharpen with my Leatherman file, using the fine side, you can finish up with a fine diamond file or a leather strop, then I put string wax on the edges.

I have always used just a file on mine. That said, they are a pain to get sharp the first time.

My experience with the single bevel is that you must keep the correct angle and take off enough metal so that the edge rolls over and then use a ceramic rod or leather strop to finish up the edge, touching up is way easier ...

Claudia,
The new 185 grn that I got from Zipper were ground very nicely and required very little filing to get sharp. The burr was already present on virtually all of the heads I received. I was very happy with the quality and the service.

I don't believe I have see a poor review or much negative feedback on here about them. Looks like it will be jumping on the band wagon... Just placed an order for some 140's
